Asia Road Racing Championship at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit
All eyes are on the MotoGP race action in September with its roster of world famous riders but Lombok just recently saw a glimpse of Asia’s very best talent during the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC).
The Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit played host to ARRC Round 4 featuring 90 riders from 11 countries across Asia on July 26-28. Riders came from Malaysia, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Australia, Yemen, and Japan. There was local support for the Indonesian riders who clinched victories. This included a win in the UB150 class by Fahmi Basam from the Yamaha LFN HP969 Indonesia Racing Team.
The ARRC comprises four open-make classes - the ASB1000, ASS600, ASS250 and UB150. Each team had their best riders competing in the different classes, with the 6,000 strong crowd enjoying the closely fought races. Race promotor Two Wheels Motor Racing worked closely with local government officials, the Ikatan Motor Indonesia association and sponsors to make it a seamless spectacle of top quality racing.
The first day’s racing was marked with a Barongsai performance during the pit walk and a Dulang Penamat dance to kick off the second race.
The Asia Road Racing Championship was introduced in 1996 as a way to develop motorcycle racing across Asia. A year later, it received the all-important endorsement from official body FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) as the official Asian regional championship.
President Director of PT Mandalika Grand Prix Association Priandhi Satria, hailed the preparation and seamless execution of the event. “A huge thank you to all who supported and contributed to the success of this event. This is a testament to our ability to host international events.”
Next up is the big one – the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia MotoGP on 27 - 29 September.
